Back in 2020, KTM revealed the X-Bow GTX, a version of their X-Bow GT2 race car that you could buy for yourself to be the king of your next track day. Later that year, the car made its official debut, and it was at that point that KTM announced they would be making a road-legal version of the GTX in limited numbers. Now, spy photographers have captured a prototype of the roadgoing version testing for the first time, and it looks to be quite the car. The position this car is in is a bit of an interesting one. Essentially, it will be the street-legal version of the track car version of the race car. A bit confusing, we know, but what’s not confusing is this car’s performance.
If it’s anything like its track-only GTX
sibling, it is powered by an Audi-sourced turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder
engine making 523 hp. Weight for the GTX comes in at a mere 1,048 kg, though expect that to rise due to all the necessary
comfort, safety, and emissions requirements that come with making a
street-legal car.
As for looks, it
seems to be nearly identical to the track car. The only differences appear to
be wheels and tires that are more road-friendly along with what appears to be a
spot for a front license plate. However, it doesn’t have side view mirrors, so
it’s possible that the prototype could undergo more changes before it reaches
production. We’d wager to say the interior will see the most noticeable changes
of anything, but without any photos of it, we can’t know for sure.
There’s no word on pricing yet, but the
track-only GTX starts at € 230,000 (US$ 260,532 at current exchange rates), so it’s
probably safe to expect something around that range for the road car. As for a
debut date, it’s expected to be either later this year or in early 2023.
