BMW has debuted a number of subtle updates to the 8-Series Coupe, 8-Series Convertible, 8-Series Gran Coupe, and all M8 models at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. The German automaker also celebrated the 50th anniversary of the M division at the event.
Changes made to the 8-Series start at the
front end where there is a new illuminated ‘Iconic Glow’ kidney grille.
Additionally, BMW has equipped all V8 models with aerodynamically optimized
wing mirrors similar to those featured as standard on the M8. The M sports
package also now comes standard in all variants of the 8-Series Coupe, 8-Series
Convertible, and 8-Series Gran Coupe.
Alterations continue into the cabin of all
8-Series variants and include an extended range of standard equipment including
multifunction seats, an M leather steering wheel, and other M-specific design
features. BMW has also increased the size of the central infotainment system
from 10.25 to 12.3 inches, the size same as the display of the X5. As for the
range of M8 models, they have been updated with new exterior paint finishes, M
light-alloy wheels, and the availability of the M Shadow Line lights for the
first time.
BMW’s broader presence at the Amelia
Island Concours d’Elegance included an exhibition showcasing 50 milestones from
BMW M GmbH’s 50 year history. Among the cars on display included a one-off BMW
M-developed 8-Series Coupe from the early 1990s, a freshly restored 1980 M1,
the V12 LMR that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1999, and an all-electric iX
M60. Various members of the BMW Car Club of America also brought along their
vehicles while BMW pulled some of the vehicles from its North American car
classic car collection out of hibernation.
