According to reports out of Japan, Toyota will officially announce plans to offer a six-speed manual in the GR Supra on April 28th. Creative311 goes onto say the 2023 Supra will go into production in July and the manual will be limited to the range-topping RZ trim in Japan. The DIY gearbox is slated to be paired to the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, which currently develops 382 hp and 498 Nm of torque.
Furthermore, the website says the manual
variant will forgo some driver assistance systems including adaptive cruise
control and rear emergency braking. While this remains unconfirmed, it’s not
unusual for manual variants to eschew some equipment due to the nature of their
gearbox.
Toyota will reportedly celebrate the
return of the manual with a Matte White Edition. Limited to 50 units, the model is slated to
feature a matte white exterior and a tan cabin with a wireless smartphone
charger as well as special badging on the dash. The Matte White Edition will be
based on the RZ trim and reportedly cost an additional ¥ 550,000 (US$ 4,767 /
£ 3,632 / € 4,385).
Besides the manual, the range-topping RZ
trim is slated to adopt new wheels that are apparently lighter than before.
There are also promises of improved steering feel and a matured chassis, but
we’ll reportedly find out full details next month.
