As big of a presence as Chevrolet has in the crossover market, they don’t offer any with the ever-popular “coupe” body style that so many manufacturers have adopted. However, that could soon change, as spy photographers have captured what appears to be exactly that vehicle testing in the U.S. Up front, the main attraction is the same signature grille found on just about all of Chevy’s models, and the shape appears to be somewhere in between the pure hourglass of the Blazer and Trailblazer SUVs and the rounded one of the Cruze and Malibu sedans.
Also similar to the Blazer and Trailblazer
are the faux fog lights sitting next to the middle of the grille. Like many
SUVs on the market, the slim “headlights” at the top are just for show, and
it’s actually those “fog lights” down below that provide the main source of
lighting. Moving back, the side window looks very similar to the Blazer’s,
albeit with the necessary modifications to accommodate the more sloped
roofline. The wheels also appear to be very similar to the ones found on the
Trailblazer RS, but there are some slight differences. Beyond that, it’s hard
to make out any other details due to the vehicle’s heavy camouflage, including
the taillights, which appear to be just testing units.
A report from GMAuthority claimed that
this vehicle would essentially be a Trailblazer-based crossover coupe that
shared a similar design to the Blazer and Tracker from front bumper to
B-pillar, after which it would be all-new. And while this vehicle seems similar
to that, it doesn’t match the description exactly, meaning the information
might have been slightly off, the plans might have been changed, or this is a
whole new vehicle altogether.
As for this crossover’s place in Chevrolet’s
lineup, it’s expected that it will sit in between the subcompact Trailblazer
and the compact Equinox/midsize Blazer. This would supposedly be to match the
three-crossover strategy being used by many other manufacturers such as Jeep,
Ford, and Nissan. Based on the fact that this prototype has a (barely) visible
exhaust, we know it won’t be electric despite Chevrolet announcing multiple new
EVs arriving in the next few years. Nevertheless, we shouldn’t have to wait
long to find out for sure, as this mystery crossover could potentially debut
within the next year.
