Chevrolet has revealed its first pickup truck Police Pursuit Vehicle building upon the knowledge gained from 25 years of the first Tahoe PPV. The 2023 Silverado PPV builds upon the Chevrolet’s Crew Cab Short Bed model and adds the Z71 package, which includes Rancho shocks, skid plate, and locking differential. A 2-inch lift is also available to bring the total ground clearance to a best-in-class 11.35-inches and increases the approach angle to 25.9 degrees. Powering the Silverado is a 5.3-liter V8 fitted with a heavy-duty air filter, producing 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels by way of a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The Silverado borrows its black 20-inch
steel wheels from the Tahoe PPV, and they are wrapped in Goodyear all-terrain
speed-rated tires. Six-piston Brembo brake front calipers with 16-inch rotors
are installed which help when maxing out the 9,300-pound towing capacity, and
the turning radius of the Silverado PPV is just 46.9 feet. Since the vehicle is
intended for police force use it features a number of options to allow for
upfitting including auxiliary wiring circuits for horn and siren, Surveillance
Mode circuit for exterior and interior lighting control, five upfitter
switches, a front middle seat delete, and LED or halogen spot lamps. Head and taillamp
flashers are fitted as standard to reduce upfitting time and cost.
A suite of safety features on the
Silverado PPV come courtesy of the standard Chevrolet Safety Assist package,
which includes Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision
Alert, Following Distance Indicator, Automatic Emergency Braking, Front
Pedestrian Braking, and IntelliBeam headlamps. Protected idle, Adaptive cruise
control, Rear Park Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Rear Cross Traffic
Braking, and Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert are available as
optional extras. The Chevrolet Tahoe PPV was introduced in 1997, and since
then, GM has been working with law enforcement agencies to best cater to their
specific requirements.
The 2023 Silverado PPV will be available
in late summer in the United States and Canada.
