Hyundai’s N division has been growing at an impressive rate as we’ve seen a flurry of new models including the Kona N and Elantra N. However, the Korean firm isn’t lifting off the accelerator as they’re putting the finishing touches on the all-new Ioniq 5 N. Set to become the first N EV, the model is instantly recognizable thanks to its edgy shape and pixel-inspired lighting units. However, a closer inspection reveals a handful of sport-focused upgrades including lightweight wheels that are backed up by a beefier braking system with large front discs.
They’re joined by wider rear wheel arches
and lightly revised side skirts. The model also appears lower than the standard
Ioniq 5, although it’s hard to be certain at this point. Furthermore, we
wouldn’t be surprised if the Ioniq 5 N features electronic limited slip
differential software similar to the Kia EV6 GT.
Speaking of the latter model, its
powertrain will likely be shared with the upcoming Ioniq 5 N. That remains to
be seen, but it’s only natural to assume as the EV6 GT has a 77.4 kWh battery
pack that feeds a dual motor all-wheel drive system pumping out a combined
output of 577 hp and 740 Nm of torque. This
enables the Kia to rocket from 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and we can
likely expect similar performance from the high-performance Hyundai.
Those are some truly impressive numbers
and they should draw even more attention to Hyundai’s performance sub-brand. Of
course, we’ll likely find out more when the Ioniq 5 N debuts either later this
year or early next year.
