Well ahead of its launch, the face of the upcoming 2024 Ford Mustang codenamed S650 may already have been shared in two new pictures circulating online. As expected, the photos show a front fascia whose updates are subtle and evolutionary but not insignificant. What appear to be quick shots, possibly from a brochure or a scree, were first shared to the Mustang7g forums and on Facebook by Steeda, with an actual prototype of the muscle car with nearly no camo on the front was spied by a reader of Ford Authority. They appear to show different models of the 7th gen Mustang, but both depict a straight-forward design, with a long line over the lights and the grille forming a strong brow.
Beneath that, a familiar but seemingly
enlarged grille features vertical bars and the car’s traditional logo. It is
bracketed, meanwhile, by new triple-element headlights that are slim and
purposeful. The lower air intakes, meanwhile, are larger than the current
Mustang’s and look to have taken inspiration from the Mustang Shelby GT500. The
whole design is capped off by a scoop that’s placed near the front of the hood.
The above shot appears to have come from a
brochure or some physical form of media because its proportions are a little
off, as if the page it’s on has been bent. Its design, though, is very similar
to that of a lower-trim S650 Mustang shared by Fordauthority. The
thick-sidewall tires and the overall toned-down front end would seem to suggest
that the second photo is perhaps of an Ecoboost model but its overall design,
its lights, and the strong the brow all look the same as they did in the first
photo, suggesting that it may be a GT or some other higher-performance model.
Further complicating things is the wide
and narrow license plate holder, which does not look like it is meant to hold
an American plate. Maybe Ford is planning early for a right-hand-drive model,
though. Ford has already started testing the car on public roads in the U.S.,
albeit under heavy camouflage. The proportions still look appropriately
coupe-ish, even under the disguise, and the interior appears to have been
pretty thoroughly updated. Its digital instrument cluster will flow right into
the center infotainment screen, as is the fashion today. A flat-bottom steering
wheel and a familiar shift lever, though, imply that Mustang devotees will
still be comfortable inside the new model.
Little is known officially about what
powertrains the blue oval is planning to offer for its next-gen pony car, but
it has access to a hybrid 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine and, of
course, a 5.0-liter V8. Ford has promised “V8-like performance with more
low-end torque” from a hybrid Mustang, though, which may be exciting or
dismaying, depending on what kind of Mustang fan you are. The S650 Mustang is
expected to make its debut next year and will likely go on sale as a model year
2024 vehicle.
