A camouflaged police car is not something we often see on the roads, but this is the case with the pictured BMW 3-Series Touring facelift. The model was spied testing on public roads under bright sunlight, wearing police gear with camouflage wrap on both ends. The upcoming facelifted 3-Series has already been spied in sedan and Touring bodystyle, with an Alpina bodykit and with optional M Performance Parts. However, the Bavarian firm is also a long-time supplier for the German police, thus the police car version of the 3er must also undergo testing.
All members of the facelifted 3-Series
range will benefit from redesigned front and rear bumpers together with a new
set of LED headlights and a slightly modified grille. This special prototype
gets the police treatment with blue and iridescent yellow graphics on a white
bodywork, and a roof-mounted lightbar/siren. The Touring bodystyle is more
fitting to the new role, since the police officers can use the extra space at
the boot that is separated from the cabin.
We can’t really see inside but we are sure
the law enforcement’s BMW will get extra gear including a police radio and an
additional screen. The car will also benefit from the BMW Operating System 8 in
the updated digital cockpit that will be introduced by the facelift. Our spy
photographers suggest that besides the additional equipment, the police car
might come with a stiffer suspension setup and power upgrades compared to the
civilian versions. If that’s the case, this will make it quicker and more agile
in the event of a pursuit, giving the upper hand to the police.
