If you thought 6×6 pickup trucks couldn’t get much crazier than they already were, the new Hennessey Mammoth 1000 6×6 TRX is here to make you change your mind. As the name suggests, it packs over 1,000-horsepower and sends it through six mammoth-sized tires. It’s one of the most powerful 6x6s on sale today and they’re only building 12.
It’s one thing to start out with a
normal-ish pickup truck and make it fast. Hennessey does that to basically
every major pickup on sale today. But it’s another thing to take the most
extreme pickup on sale, the Ram 1500 TRX, and basically put it on steroids
until it’s so muscular that the Rock would tremble in its shadow. That’s the
Mammoth 1000 6×6.
To hear John Hennessey tell it, that was
exactly the plan: “Everything we do at Hennessey Performance is turned up to
11, but the Mammoth 1000 6×6 is definitely turned up to 12! Everything on the
Mammoth 6×6 is bigger, badder, and more imposing – plus, it’s still super-fast
while being a total powerhouse off-road. It’s the undisputed king of the road.”
It’s tough to validate that statement because comparing 6×6 trucks is sort of
like comparing apex predators. They’re hard to get into a single space (in this
case based on availability for the most part) and even if you managed it,
picking a winner wouldn’t be all that simple. What we do know is that the
Mammoth 1000 6×6 TRX is one of the most complete packages available.
Other 6×6 companies usually offer no power
upgrade over the base vehicle and those that do often only turn up the boost on
turbos or superchargers to achieve the effect. Hennessey goes considerably
further by adding a totally different and more capable supercharger as well as
a slew of supporting mods like upgraded injectors, a heavy-duty supercharger
belt, and upgraded supercharger pulleys. All of that comes together during
chassis dyno tuning where Hennessey says the truck will achieve at least 1,012
hp.
It’s that attention to detail that allows
them to price this truck starting at US$ 449,950 and it’s also why they can
confidently offer a two-year or 24,000-mile warranty. Frankly, if you can drive
this thing 24,000 miles over the course of two years we think you deserve a
medal for taming the Mammoth.
