The Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid, the electrified variant of the brand’s luxury sedan, is officially the cleanest and most efficient model in Bentley’s history. The plug-in hybrid V6 powertrain serves as an alternative to the V8 and W12 engines for environmental-conscious customers.
According to the official WLTP
measurements, the average CO2 emissions are limited to 75 g/km, which is an
all-time record for a Bentley and lower than a conventional supermini. WLTP
also rated the EV driving range at 41 km, thanks to the 18 kWh
lithium-ion battery which can be recharged in as little as 2.5 hours. The
Flying Spur also offers an impressive combined range with a full tank and a
fully charged battery, at 805 km. This is up from Bentley’s earlier
estimates of over 700 km and enough to travel from London, UK all
the way to Frankfurt, Germany without refueling or stopping to recharge. The
plug-in hybrid powertrain comprises a 2.9-liter V6 petrol engine and a single
electric motor with a combined output of 536 hp and 750 Nm of torque. This is slightly less than the 542 hp of the twin-turbo V8 but good enough to allow a 0-100 km/h in 4.3
seconds.
As with the other variants of the Flying
Spur, the Hybrid is available in over 60 exterior colors and the optional
Blackline specification for a darker look and additional personalization
options by Mulliner. Inside the cabin, there are fifteen available leather colors,
eight different veneers, with configurable stitching and piping, plus diamond
quilting, 3D leather door panels, and other bespoke details.
The Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid is already
available to order in UK and Europe, with other markets – including China – set
to follow soon. The Flying Spur is the second model to receive the PHEV
treatment after the Bentayga, with Bentley planning on expanding the hybrid
option to its entire model range by 2024. Starting from 2025 and for the next
five years, Bentley will introduce five fully electric models, before becoming
an EV-only carbon-neutral brand by 2030.
