Russell Built Fabrication has returned with its latest off-road-focused Porsche 911 project and this might just be its coolest vehicle to date. In bringing its new Safari Sportsman to life, the American company starts with a 964-generation 911 and equips it with a race-proven off-road suspension system that was engineered from the ground up. This new suspension setup gives the 911 up to 10 inches of wheel travel and also extends the wheelbase by 2 inches. Russell Built Fabrication has also dramatically increased the sports car’s ground clearance and widened the track.
Key components used within the new
suspension setup are adjustable struts, adjustable camber plates, heavy duty
unit bearings and hubs, steel plate lower A-arms, 7075 billet aluminum
uprights, new tie rods, sway bar links, and upper strut mounts. The rear of the
Safari Sportsman then benefits from boxed plate steel trailing arms, internal
bypass King shocks and coilovers, heavy duty hubs, and billet aluminum hub
carriers.
A number of visual modifications have also
been made to the car. These include the fitment of flared front and rear wheel
arches, no less than six skid plates, steel tube inserts in the front and rear
bumpers, and a pair of mud flaps. A set of black Rotiform wheels have also been
engineered for the Porsche and are wrapped in Toyo Open Country tires. A number
of options are also available. These include bumper-mounted yellow fog lights,
hood-mounted rally lights, a carbon roof rack, a four-point roll cage, and an
accessory carrier that holds two recovery ramps, a tow strap, and a scissor
jack.
Three engine options are available. The
first will see Russell Built Fabrication completely rebuild the engine and
increase capacity to 3.6-liters, resulting in 310 hp. A 3.8-liter option with
350 hp and a 4.0-liter build with 400 hp are also available, while Stage 1 and
Stage 2 transmission upgrades are also offered.
