BMW has introduced a powerful new diesel engine for its 2-Series Active Tourer lineup and a couple of six-cylinder turbo modifications for the latest 4-Series. The Active Tourer van debuted in last October in three gasoline specs named 218i, 220i and 223i. The latter two were mild hybrids. New additions revealed today are plug-in hybrids called 225e and 230e. Both come equipped with a 2.0-liter gasoline turbo engine and an electric motor driving the front axle.
The 225e gets 136 PS from its main engine and 109 PS from the electric motor for a
combined output of 245 PS. The 230e benefits from a setup
capable of 326 PS. The 218d turbo diesel spec with 150 PS and 330 Nm is no longer alone now with the new
223d xDrive joining it. The latter makes 197 PS and 400 Nm of torque, and sprints to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds.
The M440i Gran Coupe still packs its usual
374 PS and 500 Nm, but you can now save € 2,500
and get the € 68,900 RWD version of it. While the M440i with four driven wheels
needs 4.7 seconds for its standard sprint, the RWD is a bit slower on the
uptake with 5 seconds.
Finally, there is the new 430d xDrive spec
with a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder diesel engine rated at 286 PS and 650 Nm of torque. It costs € 7,500 than the M440i xDrive
mentioned above, but concludes its sprint in 5.3 seconds.
