Nunam, an Indian start-up, has introduced an electric bajai, the E-rickshaw which is powered by a second-life electric battery from the Audi e-tron. The development of this prototype vehicle is the result of collaboration between Nunam and the Neckarsulm Audi factory training team in Germany. In addition, this E-rickshaw electric plow is also the first joint project between Audi AG and the Audi Environmental Foundation.
The aim of this project is to explore how
modules made with high-voltage batteries can be reused and become viable
second-life battery use cases. Nunam’s co-founder, Prodip Chatterjee said that
in this second-life project, his party is reusing batteries from electric cars
in electric vehicles trying to find out how much power the battery can still
deliver after use.
In addition, this project also aims to
strengthen job opportunities for women in India, especially those who will run
a business of transporting goods with electric rickshaws on the streets of
Indian cities. Rüdiger Recknagel, Director of the Audi Environmental Foundation
said that everyone involved in this project has promoted the intercultural
exchange of knowledge and technology, which is highly beneficial for both
parties.
