Toyota has just revealed the new Crown in US-spec and JDM-spec guise, but GR Parts and Modellista have already unveiled their tuning packages for the crossover. The upgrades are focused on the exterior, giving the Crown a sportier stance using OEM-quality parts.  Starting with GR Parts, the bodykit is called “Voguish Aerodynamics” and includes splitter add-ons, side sill extensions, a rear skirt with an integrated diffuser, and a discreet spoiler lip on the trunk. The aero parts are made of resin, and can be purchased individually or as a full package with a cost of ¥ 324,500 (US$ 2,341) painted.

If you want to combine the visual upgrades with the pictured set of 21-inch alloy wheels, you will need another ¥ 308,000 (US$ 2,222) or ¥ 484,000 (US$ 3,487) together with Michelin tires. Other options from the GR Parts catalogue include an aramid-fiber keyfob, door handle protectors, door stabilizers, and a front strut bar which upgrades the suspension for ¥ 49,500 (US$ 357).

 

Moving on to Modellista, their kit called “Brilliant Force” is a little bit more aggressive when it comes to the front spliter and the deeper side sill extensions, but more subtle at the back where we find a body-colored diffuser and faux exhaust pipes finished in chrome. Here the entire set is more expensive, selling for ¥ 422,400 (US$ 3,048) when painted, but it also includes body-colored fenders, front grille garnish, mirror caps, and side protector garnish.

Modelista’s alloy wheels are also measuring 21-inches. They are available as a full set including the tires for ¥ 462,000 (US$ 3,331), or just the alloy wheels for ¥ 286,000 (US$ 2,062). Finally, you can get door handle protectors, license plate holders and sunshades with Modellista branding. Unlike GR Parts, Modellista is not offering any suspension upgrades for the Crown.

 

The TNGA-based model is available with two different hybrid powertrains. The most potent option is the Crown Crossover RS, selling as the Crown Platinum in the US market, which has a combined output of around 340 hp. The hybrid system comprises a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, dual electric motors, a direct shift six-speed automatic transmission, and a high-output bipolar nickel-metal hydride battery.

The Toyota Crown Crossover is already available to order in Japan, where the first deliveries are expected in fall 2022. Customers in the US will get their Crown in late 2022, as the nameplate made a big return for the 2023 model year.
