Citroen revealed the facelifted C5 Aircross in Europe last January, but the model is now introduced in China under the Tianyi Beyond name. The French SUV is produced locally for the Chinese market by the Stellantis-Dongfeng joint venture. Visually, the Tianyi Beyond looks virtually identical to the C5 Aircross, benefiting from the same updates that make it look more modern compared to its predecessor. The latter was also available in China but it was called Tianyi C5 Across.
Just like its Euro sibling, the Tianyi
Beyond comes with new LED headlights and grille following Citroen’s latest
design language, black pillars, chrome accents on the windowline, plastic
cladding all around the bodywork, roof rails and skidplates for an adventurous
look, plus the updated LED graphics for the taillights.
Inside, the redesigned dashboard features
a 10-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen.
Equipment includes Level 2 ADAS, a wireless charging port, a panoramic sunroof,
a fancy navigation system with augmented reality, and Alcantara upholstery. The
comfort-focused SUV also features Citroen’s Progressive Hydraulic Cushions
suspension which was introduced in the pre-facelifted C5 Aircross back in 2017,
and the signature foam-rich seats.
What is quite different from the EU-spec
C5 Aircross is the engine lineup, since China is free from the strict emission
regulations of Europe. The entry-level 360THP model is fitted with a
turbocharged 1.6-liter engine producing 173 hp and 250 Nm. The more powerful 400THP comes fitted with a turbocharged
1.8-liter engine producing 208 hp and 300 Nm of
torque. Both petrol engines are exclusively mated to an eight-speed automatic
gearbox sending power to the front axle.
Finally, the Tianyi Beyond is also
available in PHEV guise. The electrified powertrain is the most powerful of the
range, offering a combined output of 296 hp and 520 Nm of torque, while the rear-mounted electric motor brings AWD capability.
Chinese customers don’t get the lesser FWD plug-in hybrid that is available in
Europe.
Dongfeng-Citroen has already started
taking pre-orders for the Tianyi Beyond in China, with prices ranging between
¥ 157,700 (US$ 23,393) and ¥ 231,700 (US$ 34,372) depending on the variant.
