The Lamborghini Urus is up for a facelift soon and prototypes of the updated SUV have been spied numerous times since last year. However, this is the first time our spy photographers caught a prototype of the electrified Urus that is reportedly coming with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
The Urus
PHEV is not wearing any camouflage. However, the prototype is fitted with the
current model’s body panels and standard five-spoke wheels, thus not revealing
much about the anticipated facelift. The only visible changes are the addition
of a charging port on the bulged rear fenders, and a hybrid sticker on the
windshield revealing the electrified nature of the SUV. Notably, the plug-in
hybrid Urus retains the quad exhaust pipes at the back, not loosing any of the
charm of its ICE-only sibling.
Lamborghini will reportedly share the
electrification tech with Porsche. This is probably why the Urus PHEV was spied
testing alongside plug-in hybrid prototypes of the facelifted Cayenne and the
all-new Panamera. There are reports about two different variants of the Urus
PHEV, combining the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 with electric motors. The most
powerful of the bunch is said to produce up to 808 hp, getting
well into the hyper SUV territory. Furthermore, a large battery will allow an
adequate EV-only range for those who enjoy driving their Lamborghini in a
quiet, zero-emission mode.
The facelifted Lamborghini Urus is
expected to debut before the end of 2022, alongside a hotter version that is
rumored to get the “Performante” moniker and feature Huracan Tecnica design
traits. As for the plug-in hybrid Urus, this will likely arrive in 2023,
together with the electrified successor of the Aventador. The electrification
of Lamborghini’s entire range will be completed in 2024 with the launch of the
Huracan replacement.
