Porsche has previewed the 992-generation 911 GT3 R race car that will hit the track competitively in 2023. This new race car will replace the 991.2-generation model that has been competing since 2019. Porsche has been conducting tests at Spa-Francorchamps, Barcelona, and Monza throughout 2022.
A number of key updates have been made to
the 2023 car. Speaking with SportsCar365, program manager Sebastian Golz said a
more sophisticated driver assistance package has been developed for the car. A
new software package has also been implemented.
Images of the car show that it will
feature an aggressive aerodynamics package. We can see that it sports a similar
front bumper to the road-going 911 GT3 but benefits from new canards. The hood
has also been overhauled to include a large air extraction area. Porsche has
also fitted enlarged side air intakes, a towering swan-neck rear wing, and a
pronounced diffuser.
Technical specifications about the car
aren’t yet known. A teaser video was recently shared to Twitter where Porsche
asked its followers, “how do you like the sound of the ?-liter flat-six
engine.” This may suggest that the capacity of the engine could be changed from
the 4.0-liter unit of the outgoing GT3 R.
