The Beijing Mofang is now available for purchase in China, but while the catalog includes a version with video cameras instead of side mirrors, it will continue to be listed as unavailable until China adopts new legislation explicitly allowing it. The company believes that the requirements will be updated sooner or later, but in the meantime, the top trim level of the SUV remains out of stock.
Coming in at 4.62 meters long, the model
qualifies as a mid-size crossover SUV. The name Mofang translates as “Rubik’s
cube”, and the ads make use of this analogy. With two-tier headlights, linked
taillights and pull-out door handles, the car looks as modern as they get.
Powering the Beijing Mofang is a non-electrified
1.5-liter engine using a variable-geometry turbocharger system. This enables it
to produce 188 PS and 305 Nm, which a seven-speed
DCT carries to the front axle. Launching it from zero to 100
km/h takes a sluggish 7.8 seconds.
The interior also corresponds to modern
design requirements and houses two displays with hardly any hardware buttons in
sight. Front seats with integrated headrests try to sell the SUV as a sporty
vehicle, and options include a sophisticated ACC system based on eight cameras
and five radars. Rounding off the list is an optional HUD with support for
Augmented Reality features.
