Bentley Mulliner published a new and more revealing teaser for the upcoming Batur, a coachbuilt grand tourer that will debut on August 21 during the Monterey Car Week. The handbuilt limited-production model will introduce a new design language for the brand, featuring the most powerful version of the W12 engine alongside Bentley’s most advanced chassis setup.
Following the first teaser with the grille
and the announcement of the name, the new video reveals the entire profile of
the car. The Bentley Mulliner Batur is characterized by traditional grand
tourer proportions, coming with a long bonnet and a sweeping roofline. The
silhouette looks similar to the Continental GT – on which it is presumably
based on – but the bespoke bodywork creates a more upmarket look.
The LED headlights escape from the
signature round shape associated with Bentley, the muscular rear shoulders are
further emphasized, while the side windows adopt a new style reminiscent of
Rolls-Royce. The taillights are quite thin, sending Jaguar and Mercedes-AMG
vibes, inspired by the 2019 Bentley EXP100 GT concept. The only parts that might
be carried over from the Continental GT are the windscreen, the doors, and the
mirrors. The new design language was created under the leadership of Andreas
Mind, Director of Design at Bentley, and will find its way into the future EV
range of the brand, with the first fully electric model expected to debut in
2025.
New material options for the interior
include sustainable natural fiber composites, low-CO2 leather, and 3D-printed
18K gold. Bentley says that the “color and finish of every surface and component
can be specified by the customer”, resulting in limitless personalization
options. It is also safe to assume that the Batur will be equipped with every
single tech and comfort feature found in Bentley’s portfolio.
The teaser confirms that the Batur will be
fitted with the W12 engine, in its most powerful form yet. The motor – which
according to Bentley “is entering its twilight years” – produces up to 650 hp and 900 Nm of torque in the Continental GT Speed
and the limited-production Bacalar. It is not clear if the Batur will retain or
exceed those figures. The bespoke grand tourer will also benefit from
“Bentley’s most advanced chassis system ever”. In our ears, this sounds like
the all-wheel-steering, the eLSD rear differential, the carbon-ceramic brakes,
and the Bentley Dynamic Ride system from the recently updated Bentley
Continental GT Mulliner, although the limited-production model could take the
chassis setup a step further.
We will learn more about the Bentley
Mulliner Batur – including the number of units that will be produced – in a
couple of weeks’ time at the Monterey Car Week. Judging from Bentley’s previous
teaser campaigns, we wouldn’t be surprised if we got more revealing shots of
the car prior to its debut on August 21.
