Maruti Suzuki has now launched the long-awaited new Maruti Swift CNG in the Indian market. Both models share the same 1.2L petrol engine with a factory-fitted CNG. The new Swift CNG is available in two variants – VXI and ZXI – priced at Rs 7.77 lakh and Rs 8.45 lakh respectively (both prices ex-showroom). The new Maruti Swift CNG variants are around 96,000 pricier than their respective petrol versions. It will rival the Tata Tiago iCNG, which has received positive response from car buyers. Tata Motors is also offering the CNG version of the Tigor, which is positioned against the Maruti Dzire CNG.

The Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG shares the engine with the Dzire CNG, which is a 1.2L NA petrol engine with a factory-fitted CNG kit. This engine produces 77 PS and 98.5 Nm of torque, which is significantly lesser than the petrol only model. The petrol version is capable of producing 89 bhp of power and 113 Nm of torque.

The CNG tank in the boot impacted the luggage space. Adding to it, the 10kg gas in the CNG tank has increased the weight at the rear. To counter the added weight, MSIL has fitted slightly stiffer suspensions on the S-CNG variants. There is an electronic switch besides headlight height adjusts control that allows driver to switch between the two fuels. CNG related details are displayed on MID and there is a separate ECU that controls engine parameters when CNG is selected.
