After showing us a blurry image of the exterior and a sketch of the interior layout, Skoda published an official sketch showing the dashboard of the upcoming Vision 7S concept. The fully electric SUV is expected to preview Skoda’s new “Modern Solid” design language, set to be adopted by all of its future production models.
Despite being a value-focused brand, Skoda
is known for offering some of the best interiors in the VW Group, both in terms
of design, practicality and perceived quality for the price. The next step of
the strategy is pictured in the sketch, with a more modern yet minimalist
setup. The new design for the dashboard is symmetrical, with a wraparound style
emphasizing the interior width.
The highlight is the new free-standing
infotainment touchscreen in portrait orientation. The company didn’t reveal the
size of the screen but it looks larger than anything we have seen from Skoda.
Thankfully, designers kept the climate controls in a separate section on the
center console, with actual knobs instead of touch-sensitive surfaces that are
often frustrating to use. Below the climate controls, there are two large
buttons and another rotating control. Skoda also talks about “special storage
compartments where passengers can dock their smartphones”.
The steering wheel has flattened top and
bottom sections and four spokes. One of them looks like a touchpad, while the
rotating dials on both sides could allow the driver to operate the infotainment
without taking the hands off the steering wheel. We can also see a rather small
digital instrument cluster. The fully electric concept will be a seven-seater,
featuring a three-row layout.
The Vision 7S concept will make its public
debut on August 30. We wouldn’t be surprised if Skoda revealed more of its
design in sketches, as the Czech automaker is known for its teaser campaigns.
The Czech automaker is getting ready for plenty of new and updated model
launches, including mild facelifts for the Scala, the Kamiq, and the Octavia,
plus the all-new generation of the Superb coming in both sedan and Combi forms.
