At the auto show in Chengdu, China, the Dongfeng electric super-terrain vehicle M-Terrain was presented. The novelty debuted as a concept close to the series — production will begin next year, and the SUV will be sold under the Mengshi brand. The characteristics are impressive: the Chinese have relied on a four-engine power plant with a capacity of 1088 horsepower and equipped the all-terrain vehicle with an air suspension, a third-level autopilot, and a fully controlled chassis.
Dongfeng Concern brought two electric
prototypes to Chengdu at once — a five-door 5.2-meter M-Terrain SUV and its
coupe-like counterpart M-Terrain S. In terms of technology, both all-terrain
vehicles are identical: the base is a skateboard platform with powerful
amplifiers in front, rear and transversely, the power plant is four-engine, the
chassis is unified.
Mengshi brand is familiar to the Chinese
from army all-terrain vehicles, including licensed copies of the American
Hummer H1. Mengshi electric SUVs will retain the outstanding cross the four-engine powerplant will allow
simulating inter-axle and inter-wheel interlocks, nine driving modes will be
provided, and the air suspension is able to adjust the ground clearance in the
range of 150 millimeters, and in case of emergency — within 255 millimeters.
Other features of the Mengshi M-Terrain include a semi-autonomous driving
system based on a binocular camera, an infrared night vision camera, four corners,
and one front radar, as well as a fully controlled chassis (the SUV can even
move in “crab mode”, like the GMC Hummer EV).
A basic 1088-horsepower all-terrain
vehicle with a 140-kilowatt-hour battery will be able to change the first
hundred in 4.2 seconds and drive up to 500 kilometers without recharging. There
will also be a more “long-range” version with an autonomy of 800 kilometers –
such an SUV has a battery for 65.88 kilowatt-hours and a gasoline engine as an
extender. The Dongfeng electric SUV will go into the series next year. The
production of a coupe-like version is not on the agenda yet, but it is known
that a number of all-terrain vehicles with different body types and power
plants will be released on the same platform.
