The RS6 Avant and RS7 Sportback are plenty powerful, but that hasn’t stopped Audi from introducing new performance variants. Set to be launched on December 8th for € 135,000 in Germany, the models have been equipped with an upgraded 4.0-liter V8 engine that features larger turbochargers as well as increased boost pressure. Thanks to these changes, the engine develops an additional 30 hp and 50 Nm of torque. The extra oomph brings their output to an impressive 621 hp and 850 Nm of torque. This enables the models to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, which is 0.2 seconds faster than their standard counterparts.
Both cars come equipped with the RS
Dynamic Package, which adds dynamic all-wheel steering, a rear quattro sport
differential, and an increased top speed of 280 km/h. Customers
seeking more performance can opt for the RS Dynamic Package Plus, which
includes a carbon ceramic braking system that is 34 kg lighter than
its steel counterpart. The optional package also increases the top speed to 305 km/h. The performance upgrades don’t end there as both models lose
insulation, so drivers can better hear the twin-turbo V8. The change also
results in a 8 kg weight loss, enabling the RS7 performance to tip
the scales at 2,065 kg while the RS6 Avant performance comes in at 2,090 kg.
Elsewhere, there’s a new self-locking
center differential that is “lighter and more compact” for improved driving
dynamics. The steering system has also been upgraded to be “more exact,” while
the eight-speed automatic transmission now delivers faster shifts. On the
styling front, the performance variants ride on 21-inch aluminum wheels that
feature a ten-spoke star design. Customers can also opt for larger 22-inch
wheels that are available in a variety of finishes – ranging from matte black
to matte gold – and feature a motorsport-inspired design that helps to aid
brake cooling. Furthermore, each of the 22-inch wheels is around 5 kg lighter than the 22-inch wheels found on the standard models.
The benefits don’t end with brake cooling
and weight savings as the 22-inch wheels come with new Continental Sport
Contact 7 tires. Audi says they offer better grip on wet and dry roads, shorter
braking distances, and improved handling. Buyers will also find a revised color
palette that now includes matte and metallic Ascari Blue as well as matte Dew
Silver. The models also have matte grey exterior accents, although a matte
carbon package will be available.
Inside, the traditional red and grey
accents have been joined by a new blue option. When selected, drivers will find
blue contrast stitching on the Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, floor mats,
and center console. They’re joined by blue seat belts and perforated Valcona
leather seats with blue contrast stitching.
