The first 999 VF 8 City Editions recently arrived in the United States and now the company has released additional details about them. Starting with the powertrain, the VF 8 Eco City Edition features an 82 kWh battery pack that feeds a dual-motor all-wheel drive system developing 349 hp and 500 Nm of torque. This enables the model to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in approximately 6.5 seconds and travel 288 km on a single charge.
Customers can also get the VF 8 Plus City
Edition and it’s notable for featuring an upgraded powertrain with 402 hp and 619 Nm of torque.
Thanks to the extra oomph, the dash to 100 km/h takes around
5.5 seconds while the range remains unchanged.
The motors appear to be shared with the
standard VF 8, but the City Editions have a slightly smaller battery pack. This helps to explain their disappointing
range as the regular model is slated to have a larger 87.7 kWh battery.
Speaking of which, VinFast said the City Editions can go from a 10% to 70%
charge in 24 minutes or less using a DC fast charger. Putting the powertrain
aside, the VF 8 Eco City Edition has LED lighting units and 19-inch
wheels. The Plus variant is largely
identical, but rides on larger 20-inchers.
Moving into the cabin, the Eco trim has
heated power front seats, a dual-zone climate control system, and a 15.6-inch
infotainment system. They’re joined by
an eight-speaker audio system and keyless entry. The VF 8 Plus City Edition
builds on that by adding a panoramic sunroof and leather seats with more power
adjustment. Buyers will also find a
power liftgate and a ten-speaker audio system with a subwoofer.
On the safety front, both trims come with
an assortment of driver assistance systems including Traffic Jam Assist,
Highway Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, and Lane Centering
Assist. They’re joined by Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning,
Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Blind Spot Detection. Other highlights include front/rear parking
assist, a rearview camera, automatic high-beam headlights, and traffic sign
recognition technology.
Speaking of technology, the crossover has
GPS navigation as well as Camp, Pet, and Valet modes. Customers can also get a subscription that provides
a virtual assistant, live traffic information, and a “web browser.” The VF 8
Eco City Edition starts at US$ 55,500 before a US$ 1,200 destination and handling fee
is factored in. However, the company is
offering a US$ 3,000 City Edition discount and customers can get a two year lease
for US$ 599 per month with US$ 5,774 due at signing. The Plus City Edition starts at US$ 62,500 (before destination charges) and is also eligible for the US$ 3,000
discount. Customers can also get a
similar lease for US$ 699 per month with US$ 6,789 down.
