The Ford Courier is up for replacement and spy photographers caught a camouflaged prototype featuring the production body for the first time. This likely applies to both the Transit Courier and the Tourneo Courier which is the equivalent passenger version of the light commercial vehicle. Previous sightings of the 2024 Ford Transit Courier included a mule wearing the face of the mechanically-related Ford Puma, but this time around we get a first look at the next-gen van.
Weirdly, the large headlights appear to
have a similar shape to the ones on the fifth-gen Explorer and the twelve-gen
F-150. We can also see a pretty flat bonnet, a large grille, and a smaller
lower bumper intake. In an official teaser from last year, Ford revealed the
lighting signature of the Transit Courier and Tourneo Courier with slim LEDs
and an illuminated strip on the base of the bonnet. It seems that this feature
will be present in higher-spec trims since the prototype features halogen
headlights.
Unfortunately, the entire bodywork is
covered in a camouflage wrap and features extra cladding underneath in order to
hide the details. Still, it is evident that the overall shape and surfacing of
the new Ford Transit Courier is boxier and more angular than before. The same
applies to the A-pillars and the shape of the windows. The wheelbase looks
quite short, and there is no sliding rear door from the driver’s side. At the
back, the van has the standard two-piece tailgate, and taillights that look
very similar to the larger Transit Custom.
Despite the design overhaul, the model is
expected to ride in an updated version of the current platform which also
underpins the soon-to-be-discontinued Fiesta supermini and the Puma B-SUV. Ford
has confirmed that the new generation of the Transit / Tourneo Courier will
debut in ICE-powered form in 2023, with EV variants following in 2024. The
latter will most likely share the electric motors and the battery pack with the
upcoming Puma EV.
We will keep an eye on more prototype
sightings of the Ford Transit Courier, hoping they will lose some camouflage as
we move closer to the official debut later this year.
