The elegant coupe you see in these spy photos is unmistakably an Aston Martin, specifically, the timeless DB11 model. But why test a car that came out in 2016 with stickers saying ‘Prototype Vehicle’? We have a theory.

The car was caught standing still at a gas station somewhere in Europe, looking like it desperately needed a wash. Its rear end, side sills and fenders looked indistinguishable from the latest DB11 – you may watch the attached video and compare for yourself. But a look at the front end immediately reveals a larger radiator grille and smaller headlamps.

If you zoom in on certain photos, you will just barely see the heavy wraps on the dash panel. Knowing Aston Martin, it probably wouldn’t go as far as to redesign the whole dash for a mid-life refresh.
