Chery has begun unveiling its Tiggo 9 model. The flagship SUV is scheduled to go on sale in May this year, so let’s take a look at these official photos. The radiator grille is massive and sports vertical bars. The headlights are slim with LED DRLs. The front fenders have Chery’s signature inserts, and the door handles are of the pull-out type.

A look from the side reveals a very laconic profile with smooth sculpted sides and a gently sloped roof. The darkened c-pillars wear a novel pattern, and the wheels measure 20 inches across.

There are still no interior images, but we do have one spy shot. If it is any indication, the Tiggo 9 will be fitted with a pair of 12.3-inch displays merged into a single unit, as well as a sporty-looking three-spoke steering wheel. The massive center tunnel will offer enough space for a two-device wireless charging pad.

The use of M3X architecture enables Chery to ship the model with any powertrain it chooses, but the first version to reach the market will get a 2.0-liter turbo engine rated at 254 PS and 390 Nm of torque. Earlier rumors had claimed that a seven-speed DCT would be used for the transmission, but CarNewsChina is now reporting that the Tiggo 9 uses an eight-speed auto gearbox. All-wheel-drive will only be available in the topmost trims. When maxed out, the 4.8-meter-long crossover SUV will have a top speed of 205 km/h.
