The latest bunch of shots of the pre-production Mercedes-Benz EQG allows us a glimpse inside the company’s first all-electric performance off-roader. It may look like your typical G-Class at first, but you’d better take a closer look.
The test driver must have forgotten to
drape over the interior as they left the SUV. Thanks to this, we may now
conclude that the car has two displays inside and a center console inherited
from the standard G-Wagon. The air vents also look unchanged in the slightest.
The analog watch face is missing from the
console, as are the HVAC controls. It looks like a touch-sensitive strip
replaces both, although it remains to be seen how it works. The overall button
count is much lower than in the traditional G-Class. We also suspect that the
test vehicle was a high-end EQG spec: note the sporty squared-off steering
wheel with dual spokes.
The German automaker promises us a market
launch in 2024. The EQG shapes up to be a serious body-on-frame SUV armed with
a quartet of electric motors rated at 600 PS or so.
