Local Chinese media today also revealed spy photos of what is allegedly the NIO ES5. Auto Home today shared two spy photos of what is suspected to be the ES5, saying that the model is currently being tested in icy conditions. The car is currently tightly wrapped in camouflage, keeping design details from being seen, though its headlight design looks similar to the NIO ES7, the report said.

Earlier today, Auto Home shared three spy shots of what is purported to be the NIO EC7. And the latest spy shots of the so-called ES5 complicate speculation about which models NIO will launch at this weekend's NIO Day 2022 event.

On December 12, NIO co-founder and president Qin Lihong said that NIO will launch two models at NIO Day 2022, one of which is the ES8 based on the NT 2.0 platform and the other is a very stylish new model. Qin did not provide more details at the time, but that new model is likely to be the NIO EC7 coupe SUV, given that the company stopped showing the wait time for the EC6 coupe SUV last week.

With the latest spy photos of what is suspected to be the ES5 emerging, the possibility of NIO launching that model this weekend instead of the EC7 cannot be ruled out. It is worth noting that spy photos of the NIO ES5 started circulating two months ago.
