The Corolla Cross sits below the RAV4 in Toyota’s SUV range both in terms of size and pricing but what can you do when you have the former but prefer the looks of the latter? Japanese tuner Rivai has the solution with a new RAV4-style bodykit for the Toyota Corolla Cross that was exhibited at the Tokyo Auto Salon combined with a number of off-road accessories.
The highlight of the RAVCross is the
redesigned front bumper that mirrors the rugged-looking Adventure trim of the
RAV4. It features a much larger hexagonal grille with Toyota lettering, plastic
parts covering a portion of the headlights, faux side intakes housing
foglights, and an aluminum-style skidplate under the blocked lower bumper
inlet.
It also gets bolt-on plastic fender add-ons
for a more adventurous look, and a new set of Delta Force 16-inch alloy wheels
shod in grippier all-terrain tires. The off-road credentials of the crossover
are improved with an AgeMaxxi suspension lift that increases ground clearance.
Other goodies include a Rhino-Rack Pioneer platform for additional storage,
ROAM Adventure cases with 52 liters of storage each, KC
HiLiTES LEDs to fight the darkness in the wilderness, and a Rhino-Rack
Sunseeker retractable awning.
According to the tuner, the cost of the
bumper is ¥ 203,500 (US$ 1,584), not including the
¥ 9,900 (US$ 77) Toyota lettering. The fender add-ons are priced at ¥ 49,500 (US$ 385)
while the roof rack is the most expensive part at ¥ 249,700 (US$ 1,943). The
suspension lift adds another ¥ 42,900 (US$ 334), the roof-mounted LED lights
¥ 218,900 (US$ 1,703), the awning ¥ 61,600 (US$ 479), and the roof boxes ¥ 36,960 (US$ 288)
each. Note that the aforementioned prices include tax but do not include
shipping, painting, and installation costs.
While the exterior design of the Corolla
Cross differs depending on the market (the JDM-spec model has a tiny grille and
much larger bumper intake compared to the US-spec or EU-spec examples), the
bodykit is likely compatible with all of them. The tuner suggests that
installation of the custom bumper requires two or four holes depending on the
trim level of the SUV.
