AutoHome.cn is reporting that a full-size SUV named the Dongfeng Warrior (otherwise known as the Mengshi M20) will debut next Saturday, February 18, flaunting a body dwarfing that of the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and packing a 6.7-liter big truck V8. More specifically, the newcomer is 5,970 mm long, 2,160 mm wide and 2,155 mm tall with 3,700 mm between the axles. The LC300 mentioned above comes in under five meters long. The approach and departure angles reportedly amount to 33 and 36 degrees, respectively. The massive off-roader can wade water up to 800 mm high and surmount upright obstacles up to 400 mm tall.
Earlier rumors had claimed that the
so-called Warrior M20 would be China’s response to the America’s iconic Hummer
H1. To that end, it would have been designed on the same platform as the
Warrior M50 truck, which has been on sale in China for two years.
However, as it now turned out, the new M20
model runs on its own, purpose-designed platform and uses a massive 6.7-liter
diesel V8 that Dongfeng puts in large trucks. The mill churns out 314 PS along with 1,050 Nm of torque. The top speed will
reportedly be capped at 140 km/h. All-wheel drive and inter-axle diff
lock are also mentioned in the spec sheet.
The interior should offer the highest
level of luxury possible for a pickup, AutoHome.cn says. Buyers will be able to
opt for a winch, an engine pre-warmer, mud tires and other such things. As for
the price, it remains undisclosed but is expected to start in the general
vicinity of 300,000 Yuan (US$ 44,200).
