The Ford F-150 Lightning is a hot commodity and one recently sold for US$ 275,000 at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction. That’s nearly five times more than the base price of the pickup, but this wasn’t your typical model. Instead, it was a Fighter Country Edition based on the range-topping Platinum trim. The F-150 Lightning Platinum starts at US$ 96,874 and comes nicely equipped with heated / ventilated leather seats, a massive moonroof, and an 18-speaker B&O Unleashed premium audio system. The model also sports a 15.5-inch infotainment system, Pro Power Onboard, and the Blue Cruise semi-autonomous driving system.
That’s just the starting point as the
Fighter Country Edition adds a handful of special touches inspired by the F-35
Lightning II fighter jet. While the auction listing doesn’t go into detail, the
truck was apparently created with the assistance of Sanderson Ford and sports
aftermarket wheels as well as “Fighter Country Foundation” badging on the
hood. The model has also been adorned
with a bed cover and F-35 Lightning graphics.
While the changes are minor, it appears
someone was a fan and wanted to support the Fighter Country Foundation. 100% of
the hammer price will benefit the charity, whose purpose is to “support the
men, women and families of Luke Air Force Base in Arizona.”
As for the winning bidder, they’ll receive
a unique truck that features a 131 kWh battery pack and a dual-motor all-wheel
drive system developing a combined output of 580 hp and 1,050 Nm of torque. This setup
enables the model to accelerate from 0-96 km/h in less than four
seconds and have a range of 483 km.
