The 2023 Mercedes GLC will arrive at U.S. dealerships this spring and the company has announced the redesigned model will start at US$ 47,100. That’s US$ 3,250 more than its predecessor, but buyers will find a stylish and better equipped crossover. The changes are immediately apparent as the 2023 GLC adopts a sleeker and more curvaceous design. Mercedes hasn’t provided full equipment details, but the entry-level model will come equipped with LED lighting units, rain-sensing wipers, and a power liftgate. They’ll be joined by 18-inch wheels, a sunroof, and Keyless Start / Keyless-Go.

The cabin goes high-tech as it features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.9-inch infotainment system with an Intelligent Assistant that responds to the “Hey, Mercedes” wake word.  The model also supports wireless Apple CarPlay and features a fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication. Putting technology aside, the GLC comes standard with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and 16-way power front seats with heating and a memory function. They’re joined by an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a wireless smartphone charger, and a 64-color ambient lighting system.

 

On the safety front, there’s an assortment of driver assistance systems including Active Brake Assist, Blind Spot Assist, and Parktronic with Active Parking Assist.  The model also comes standard with Attention Assist and Pre-Safe with Pre-Safe Sound. Buyers looking for more luxury and technology can upgrade to the GLC 300 Exclusive, which starts at US$ 49,350.  It has an upgraded interior with illuminated door sill plates, “enhanced” ambient lighting, GPS navigation, and a Burmester 3D surround sound system. The mid-level trim also comes with a Surround View system and Guard 360, which is a security system that utilizes the crossover’s various cameras to catch evildoers in the act.

The range-topping GLC 300 Pinnacle starts at US$ 51,450 and comes with all the aforementioned equipment as well as a head-up display, augmented reality navigation, heat and noise insulating glass, and Digital Light headlights with projection technology. We can expect to learn more closer to launch, but the GLC will be offered with MB-Tex, leather, and nappa leather upholstery as well as an assortment of new trims including Natural Grain Black Wood with Aluminum Lines.  Customers will also be able to get a panoramic sunroof, heated/ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel.

Motivation is provided by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 255 hp and 400 Nm of torque.  Besides being more powerful, the new powertrain has a 48-volt mild hybrid system with an EQ Boost function that can deliver an extra 23 hp and 200 Nm of torque for improved performance. This setup will enable the crossover to accelerate from 0-96 km/h in 6.2 seconds, before hitting an electronically limited top speed of 209 km/h.  While rear-wheel drive is standard, customers can get 4MATIC all-wheel drive for an additional $2,000.
