The Toyota Audio Multimedia system continues to spread across the automaker’s lineup and it has now landed in the 2023 Mirai. The system sports a 12.3-inch display and features an Intelligent Assistant that responds to the “Hey, Toyota” wake word. It can be used to adjust the climate control system, radio, and navigation system. Speaking of the latter, the Toyota Audio Multimedia system features cloud-based navigation with Google points-of-interest data.
Other highlights include wireless Apple
CarPlay and Android Auto, over-the-air updates, and integrated Apple Music and
Amazon Music streaming. However, you’ll
need to sign up for subscriptions to get the most out of the system once the
initial trial period expires. The entry-level Mirai comes equipped with an
8-inch digital instrument cluster, a wireless smartphone charger, and a
14-speaker JBL audio system. The model
also sports heated SoftTex front seats with power adjustment.
Buyers looking for more luxury can upgrade
to the Limited trim, which has heated and ventilated seats at all four
corners. The range-topping model also
has a tri-zone automatic climate control system, an eight color ambient
lighting system, a fixed panoramic glass roof, and a digital rearview mirror
with HomeLink. Limited buyers will also find a US$ 5,170 Teammate option, which
was added to the lineup last year. It’s
a hands-free semi-autonomous driving system that uses cameras as well as radar
and LiDAR to enable the Mirai to drive itself on highways. It’s joined by an Advanced Park function,
which allows for hands-free parallel parking and reverse parking.
While the autonomous tech is notable, the
Mirai is best known for featuring a hydrogen fuel cell and a rear-mounted
electric motor that develops 180 hp. This enables the car to accelerate from 0-96 km/h in 9.2 seconds and travel up to 647 km between fill
ups. Toyota has held the line on pricing as the Mirai XLE starts at US$ 49,500
while the Limited begins at US$ 66,000. The
model also comes with up to US$ 15,000 of complimentary hydrogen, but the Mirai is
only available in California.
