Ford has officially launched the configurator for the 2024 Mustang, marking the first phase in a multipart launch. This means that you can now build your perfect sports car to see what it will look like and, someday, how much it will cost. Right now, there are six trim lines of the next-gen Mustang to play with, starting with the Ecoboost Fastback, which starts at US$ 30,920, running all the way up to the Dark Horse Premium trim that has a starting price of US$ 61,865.
Notably absent from the available options
are the convertibles. A document first leaked on the Mustang7g forum, shows
that the build and price tool will be rolled out in four phases. The first went
live today, and features trim levels, colors, and some options. The second phase
of the configurator is set to go live on April 17th, which happens to also be
the Mustang’s birthday. It will have additional trim details, full packages,
and more. In May, Ford will offer prospective buyers new images and details on
the configurator and, finally, in June everything that it can offer will be
added to the website.
For now, if you opt for the most expensive
2024 Mustang available (the Dark Horse Premium) and go for all the bells and
whistles – including the US$ 5,495 tarnish dark high gloss/Tuxedo gloss black with
pattern Painted Racing Stripe, the car can cost up to US$ 79,515.
That is (as Motor1 first pointed out) more
than the starting price of the 2023 Mustang Shelby GT500. Although Ford calls
the Dark Horse the most track-focused 5.0-liter Mustang ever, it makes 260 hp less than the supercharged Shelby. That’s unlikely to deter
Mustang customers, though, and Ford has started taking pre-orders for some 2024
Mustang, with the order banks expected to open fully on April 17.
