Saleen is celebrating its 40th anniversary with another special edition of the sixth-gen Mustang. The SA-40 two-seater Speedster will be produced in a limited number of 10 units, with a Saleen bodykit and a tuned V8 engine. The model is a follow-up to previous anniversary specials including the more recent SA-35 from 2018. All examples will be painted in Speedlab Yellow combined with black graphics. The exterior looks very similar to other Saleen-tuned Mustangs thanks to the custom bumpers, side skirts, vented front fenders, bonnet scoops, and smoked headlights. Moreover, the company suggests that the five-spoke alloy wheels are unique to the SA-40.
The unique tonneau cover with carbon-fiber
hoops above the headrests distinguishes the SA-40 from regular Mustang
convertibles, justifying the Speedster description. The two-seater interior
gets black leather with white stitching, white patches, and yellow details.
The SA-40 shares most of its underpinnings
with the Saleen 302 Black Label. This means it gets a supercharged 5.0-liter
Coyote V8 producing 800 hp and 915 Nm of torque.
Chassis upgrades include a Racecraft suspension and Saleen-specific brakes. Steve
Saleen, founder of the company, said: “We really wanted to make the SA-40
special, and I think we have by creating the best looking and highest
performing Saleen Mustang to date”.
The limited production vehicle is priced
at US$ 142,000. However, you can get one for much cheaper, as the first example
will be given to a lucky individual that will donate to Cruise for a Cause
nonprofit organization, benefiting cancer research. This particular SA-40 comes
with special embroidery on the headrests, honoring the cause.
