Following a preview earlier this year, Volkswagen has announced plans to introduce the facelifted Touareg on May 24. Billed as a “comprehensive technical and visual update,” the revamped Touareg sports new IQ.LIGHT HD matrix headlights which are connected by a thin illuminated strip. Volkswagen has previously said each headlight features 19,200 micro-LEDs and they’ll be able to project an “interactive carpet of light into the lane.”
They’ll be joined by a new front bumper,
which features a more pronounced lower intake. The grille has also been
reworked, while the rear end appears pretty evolutionary. That being said,
Volkswagen has previously revealed the crossover will be their first vehicle in
Europe to feature an illuminated rear logo. The cabin largely carries over, but
drivers will find “further developed” voice control technology as well as
wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Volkswagen has also said the armrests
and center console will be softer in response to customer feedback.
Putting styling and interior updates
aside, Volkswagen has said the crossover will feature a new roof load sensor
that can detect roof boxes and adjust the electronic stability control system
in response. The automaker has also said
the “standard steel spring running gear and the optional two-chamber air
suspension running gear have … been given a new setup to achieve an even larger
bandwidth between maximum comfort and optimum performance.”
Little is known about performance changes
at this point, but Volkswagen has previously said the Touareg R eHybrid will
remain available. It currently consists
of a 3.0-liter V6 engine, an electric motor, an eight-speed automatic
transmission, and a 17.9 kWh battery pack.
This setup gives the model a combined output of 456 hp and an electric-only range of 47 km.
