Skoda has been teasing a slew of upcoming models, but spy photographers have caught the redesigned Superb Combi. Set to debut alongside a sleeker liftback variant this fall, the wagon is heavily disguised but adopts an edgier design with a larger and more pronounced grille. It’s flanked by slender headlights, which feature slim daytime running units.
They’re joined by a BMW-esque hood that
has a dip in the center. We can also see an evolutionary front bumper, which
features vertical air curtains at the outside edges. Moving down the side,
there’s an upward sweeping beltline and a character line that now flows through
the door handles. They’re joined by streamlined bodywork and what appears to be
a more adventurous greenhouse. The rear end is heavily disguised, but it’s more
defined and features a wraparound spoiler. The exhaust has also been hidden,
while the taillights appear to be slimmer.
Spy photographers haven’t gotten a good
look inside, but the cabin could echo the one found in the upcoming Volkswagen
Passat as the two wagons will have a lot in common. If that’s the case, we can
expect a digital instrument cluster and a large, free-standing infotainment
system.
While Skoda is playing coy, the automaker
has said the Superb will “continue to set standards in terms of comfort and
space.” The company has also promised “new features, improved technology and a
completely redesigned interior.”
Performance specifications remain shrouded
in secrecy, but the model is slated to ride on an updated version of the MQB
platform. Skoda has also said the car will be offered with “modern, efficient
petrol and diesel engines as well as plug-in and mild hybrid options.” The
redesigned Superb will be made in Bratislava, Slovakia and the company has
previously said the move will enable them to build an extra 150,000 Kodiaq and
Karoq SUVs annually.
