Next year, Acura plans to revive the ZDX name for their first-ever electric vehicle, and it was confirmed that a performance-oriented Type S variant will arrive later down the line. Now, a new report asserts that the Type S line will cover more than just the ZDX, stretching to the rest of their EV lineup when it eventually arrives. As reported by Automotive News, the Japanese carmaker plans on extending the Type S line to include their future electrified efforts.
Seeing as the ZDX will be the company’s
first EV, it will also be their first EV to don the Type S designation. Given
that, it will need to make a lasting impression to stand out in the inevitable
sea of electric performance crossovers. To do so, Acura plans to distinguish their
EVs from others by placing a greater emphasis on driving dynamics and character
as opposed to just outright speed.
Acura’s parent company, Honda, is
targeting North American EV sales in the order of 800,000 units by 2030, with
500,000 of those coming from Honda themselves and 300,000 being allocated to
Acura and other subsidiaries. This will be kicked off by the Prologue
crossover, Honda’s counterpart to the ZDX as well as Chevy’s Blazer EV.
