A few weeks ago Opel confirmed that the next-gen Crossland is coming in 2024 with an EV option and now our spy photographers caught a camouflaged prototype during testing on public roads. The all-new 2024 Opel Crossland looks notably larger than the outgoing model, sharing a large portion of its bodywork with the related Citroen C3 Aircross. The fact that the prototype was spied outside Opel’s premises in Europe and the adoption of the automaker’s fonts on the graphics made us recognize it as the next-gen Crossland and not its upcoming Citroen sibling. We say that because the profile looks nearly identical to the Citroen C3 New Aircross, including the characteristic greenhouse, the upright tail, and the sculpted fenders. The latter might be destined for emerging markets but the upcoming EU-spec Citroen C3 Aircross could look very similar from the sides, as with the Opel Crossland.

Brand-specific features will likely be focused on the redesigned front and rear ends. The SUV from Russelsheim will get the Opel Vizor treatment with a covered grille connecting the LED headlights, a clamshell bonnet, and a modern bumper with dual central intakes. We also expect it to be among the first production models to feature Opels’ redesigned Blitz emblem. At the back, the split LED taillights look slightly different, with the large tailgate showing that this will be a practicality-focused offering. Speaking of practicality, the 2024 Opel Crossland has grown larger compared to its predecessor, further distancing itself from the smaller, sportier, and style-driven Mokka. The new model is expected to measure close to the 4.32 m of the Citroen New C3 Aircross, something that would make it 108 mm longer than the outgoing Crossland. The extra length will likely result in a more spacious cabin and a larger boot, similar to the 482-511 lt of the Citroen sibling.

 

The Opel Crossland will move from the aging PF1 platform to a stretched version of the more modern CMP/eCMP architecture, bringing advancements in terms of technology, safety, ride comfort, and efficiency. The pictured prototype is fully electric, as hinted at by the lighting bolts on the camouflage wrap and the lack of tailpipes. This is expected to inherit the widely-used powertrain from the other Stellantis EVs, including a single electric motor that produces either 134 hp or 154 hp, combined with 50 kWh or 54 kWh battery packs respectively. Besides the zero-emission variant, the Crossland is expected to be available with the new 1.2-liter mild-hybrid powertrain which is already available in the facelifted Corsa, producing 99 hp or 134 hp. Note that the ICE-powered options of the Crossland and other Opel models will remain available for less than 4 years since the automaker wants to become an EV-only brand in Europe by 2028.

Opel will unveil the next-gen Crossland next year, with the first deliveries expected before the end of 2024. The B-SUV will be joined by the successor of the larger Grandland, which is also deemed to grow in size.
