Bugatti unveiled the latest one-off commission based on the Chiron, dubbed “Golder Era”.The hypercar features 45 sketches of past Bugatti models hand-painted on the bespoke bi-tone livery, and more of them inside the cabin, as a nod to the automaker’s rich heritage. This is another creation of the Bugatti Sur Mesure program for a “very important customer” who contacted them through a dealership in Greenwich, Connecticut. According to the Molsheim brand, this was “perhaps the most challenging bespoke project” it has undertaken, with the exterior treatment alone taking over 400 hours.

Achim Anscheidt, who recently retired from the position of Bugatti’s Design Director and was responsible for the project admitted that this type of “extensive special commission” is “exceedingly rare”, with no more than one or two every year. This time, the customer’s request was to create something unique in celebration of the Chiron Super Sport as he considers it a “landmark moment in the world of the automobile”. The design team proposed the concept of hand-drawn sketches on the bodywork, and the customer “fell in love” with the idea.

 

The compositions were carefully refined in terms of the scale proportion and form of each sketch before they were applied to the vehicle. Interestingly, the company had to develop a new technique in order to hand-draw the sketches on the bodywork using pencils which took “a great deal of time”. Besides presenting a top-notch quality and finish, the resulting graphics needed to stand the test of time, surviving for the entire lifecycle of the vehicle. On the passenger’s side, we find 26 sketches with iconic models including the Type 41 Royale and the Type 57 SC Atlantic. The driver’s side features 19 sketches from the automaker’s recent history including the likes of the EB110, Veyron, Chiron, Divo, Centodieci, and La Voiture Noire. There is also a representation of the 3,712 individual components of the W16 engine and a “Golden Era” lettering under the active rear wing. A bespoke gold shade called Doré was chosen as the canvas for the sketches, fading out into a metallic variant of the Nocturne Black which is covering the front section of the car.

The interior is also pretty special, with the faces of 3 Buggati models applied by hand on the leather-upholstered door cards. The driver’s side has the EB110, Veyron, and Chiron, while the passenger is treated with the Type 35 racing car, the Type 57 SC Atlantic, and the Type 41 Royale. The cabin features two shades of leather beautifully combined with matte carbon-fiber bits. It also got “Goldern Era” stitching on the seats, “one-of-one” lettering on the center console, and the active periods of Bugatti hand-written on the side sills.

The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport Golder Era will be handed over to its owner at the Monterey Car Week where it will be exhibited among other exotics. The company didn’t disclose the price of the model but given the time and effort invested in the bespoke livery, it must be significantly more expensive than the € 3.2 million (US$ 3.5 million) of the regular Chiron Super Sport. Note that Buggati only produced 60 units of the Super Sport, among the total of 500 units of the Chiron. The next step for the brand is the yet-unnamed Chiron successor which has been confirmed for 2024.
