Dongfeng has unveiled the first model of its Nammi sub-brand at the Guangzhou Auto Show. Called ‘01’, it is a hatchback-style subcompact electric car priced from 79,800 to 109,800 Yuan. It is only available to re-order at this point, but Car News China says the corporation hopes to ramp up Nammi EV annual sales to 400,000 units in just a few years.
The Nammi 01 is Dongfeng’s first vehicle
based on a new architecture called the S3. It is 4,030 mm long, 1,810 mm wide
and 1,570 mm tall with 2,660 mm of wheelbase. It has triangular headlights with
a LED strip between them, oval taillights, frameless doors with pull-out
handles and blacked-out pillars for a ‘floating roof’ effect. The charging port
is concealed in the front right fender. Wheels come in two sizes – 16 and 17
inches.
The interior sports a black and white
leather trim with a quilted pattern on the dashboard and the door panels. There
are only a few hardware buttons in sight, since most functions are accessible
through the two main touchscreens. Once you fold the rear seat, the trunk size
goes up to 945 liters. Earlier on, the company had promised
us a Level 2 self-driving system for this model, but it didn’t mention it at
the show.
Power for the Nammi 01 EV comes from a
single front-axle motor rated at 95 PS. The speed doesn’t
exceed 140 km/h. Batteries come in two sizes – 31.45 kWh for 330 km of range and 42.3 kWh, which is enough for 430 km. Fast
charging enables you to replenish 200 km worth of charge in eight
minutes.
