Li Auto tried launching a minivan called Mega on the domestic market in 2017, but it never took off due to being marketed exclusively as a vehicle for taxi and ridesharing companies. It has now been redesigned and relaunched with a different audience in mind. The new Li Auto Mega is a business-oriented shuttle stylistically inspired by Chinese bullet trains. It has a sloping roof, which is not something you would normally see on a minivan, but the company says the aerodynamic advantage is considerable.
The interior remains to be shown, but we
expect it to look much like the cabins of the Li L7, L8 and L9 SUVs that the
minivan is closely related to. This implies a digital screen ensemble on the
dash, a heads-up display, a touch panel on the steering wheel, and more.
There are seven seats in total, arranged
in a 2+2+3 fashion. A 680mm long trunk space resides behind the
third row, but you can fold the seats and get 1,066 mm of space.
The manufacturer also points out that the elongated rear end is there for
safety – if another car collides with the Li Auto Mega, its rear will crumple
and absorb the energy of the impact as much as possible without injuring anyone
inside.
The only drivetrain available is
all-electric. Two motors drive the wheels with a combined effort of 544 PS and 542 Nm of torque. The MPV needs as little as 5.5
seconds to reach 100 km/h.
