Kia introduced the 2024 Sportage this summer and now the company is turning its attention to the hybrid variant. Set to arrive at dealerships shortly, the crossover benefits from “mindful updates.” However, these are hardly worth mentioning as the model now comes equipped with LED headlights and second-row airbags. Despite the relatively minor changes, pricing has climbed from US$ 27,490 to US$ 28,290. That’s an increase of $800 and this is across the board for all three trims.
Speaking of trims, the entry-level
Sportage Hybrid LX comes equipped with an acoustic windshield, privacy glass,
and 17-inch alloy wheels. Buyers will also find a 12.2-inch digital instrument
cluster, an 8-inch infotainment system, and manual cloth seats. Other
highlights include a dual-zone automatic climate control system and a
six-speaker audio system. They’re joined by Forward Collision Avoidance Assist,
High-Beam Assist, Lane Following / Lane Keeping Assist, and Parking Distance
Warning – Reverse.
The range-topping SX Prestige AWD costs US$ 37,190 and is distinguished by LED fog lights as well as larger 18-inch alloy
wheels. The model also sports satin trim, a power liftgate, and a sunroof. Moving
inside, there’s a panoramic curved display that consists of a 12.3-inch digital
instrument cluster and a matching 12.3-inch infotainment system. They’re joined
by heated and ventilated power front seats that are covered in SynTex
upholstery. Rounding out the highlights are a heated leather steering wheel, a
wireless smartphone charger, and a Harman Kardon audio system.
Besides the classier cabin, there’s a host
of driver assistance systems including Highway Driving Assist and Smart Cruise
Control with Stop and Go. Buyers will also find Blind Spot-Collision Avoidance
Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist, and Remote Smart Parking
Assist. That’s on top of Safe Exit Warning, a Blind View Monitor, and a
Surround View Monitor.
Regardless of which trim is selected, all
models are powered by a hybridized powertrain that consists of a turbocharged
1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, a 1.49 kWh lithium-ion battery, and two
electric motors. This setup gives the crossover a combined output of 227 hp and 349 Nm of torque. More importantly, the
crossover has a fuel economy rating of up to 42 mpg city, 44 mpg highway, and
43 mpg combined.
