A handful of patented images of the production-spec Renault 5 E-Tech have leaked online, showing the all-electric hatchback in full ahead of its global debut on February 26. These images were recently published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and show that the electric hatchback will look very similar to the 2021 concept.
The front of the 5 E-Tech sports the
updated Renault badge and includes LED headlights with an intriguing and sharp
design not dissimilar to the concept. While the car has no traditional grille,
the front fascia does sport three slim horizontal slats while found towards the
base of the bumper is a large opening. Perhaps the most intriguing part of the
hatch’s design is the black squares on the bumper that house the cute LED
daytime running lights.
The new Renault 5 is a four-door with the
handles for the rear doors hidden in the C-pillar. We can also see that the
charging port is located on the front quarter panel and that the 5 E-Tech is
fitted with black rocker panels. The example depicted in these images also has
a black roof and black pillars with red accents, further adding to the quirky
looks. Found at the rear of the electric hatchback are LED taillights with an
intricate light signature. There is also a subtle spoiler stretching out from
the roof and a bumper clad in black. A set of silver and black wheels are also
featured.
Renault 5 E-Tech will be about 3.92 m long, making it shorter than the upcoming VW ID.2, the VW Polo,
and the Renault Clio. Underpinning the car will be the company’s new CMF-BEV
architecture, which shares 70% of its components with the CMF-B platform used
by ICE models like the Renault Clio, Captur, and Dacia’s range of vehicles.
Power will come courtesy of a single
electric motor. Reports vary on how much power this motor will provide but it
should be in the region of 120 hp – 150 hp.
