Toyota recently introduced another facelift of the immortal Land Cruiser 70 Series, which has been in continuous production since 1984. This latest update keeps the old-school styling adding modern technology to the mix to further enhance its appeal. While the Japanese-market lineup remains limited to the five-door SUV body style, the shorter three-door variant is now available in the United Arab Emirates, featuring a V6 gasoline engine.

Throughout its history, the Series 70 has featured various body styles, leaving uncertainty about which ones would continue with the latest update. Toyota’s United Arab Emirates website showcases a single-cab pickup, a five-door SUV, and a three-door SUV, with the latter two available for purchase. Additionally, images of a dual-cab pickup from Toyota Australia have emerged, suggesting that the refreshed lineup is nearly complete, with only the ‘Troop Carrier’ wagon remaining to be unveiled.

While most people would find the five-door Land Cruiser far more practical, the three-door variant holds a distinct appeal for off-road enthusiasts, thanks to its compact size. Measuring 4,235 mm in length, the three-door model is 640 mm shorter than its five-door counterpart. This puts it just slightly longer than a Toyota Yaris Cross, but the ladder-frame-based Land Cruiser is considerably taller and wider. Updated styling elements such as the round (albeit LED) headlights, protruding indicators, chrome-infused bumper, and blocked taillights that were introduced in the 2024 facelift echo the design of the original, resulting in a timeless look. The UAE-spec model also comes equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels wrapped in high-profile rubber tires.

The interior features Nubuck and Synthetic Leather upholstery for the seats, a 9-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a 2-speaker audio setup, and electric windows. The safety kit has been enhanced with a few Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including Lane Departure Assist and a Pre-Collision System, although there are only two front airbags in total.Unlike Japan, where the Land Cruiser 70 Series is exclusively available with turbodiesel engines (a 2.8-liter inline-four or a 4.5-liter V8), buyers in the United Arab Emirates have access to a single gasoline powertrain option. It features a 4.0-liter V6 24V Dual VVT-i (1GR-FE) engine, producing 228 hp and 360 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to all four wheels via a 6-speed Super ECT automatic gearbox and a robust 4WD system.

In the United Arab Emirates, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series Hardtop 3-Door is available in a single trim, starting from AED 169,900 (US$ 46,300). For comparison, the equivalent five-door version starts from AED 179,900 (US$ 49,000), while pricing for the single-cab pickup has yet to be announced in the region.
