Honda’s strategy for electric vehicles will become a few pixels clearer at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024 when it unveils a new EV for global markets. Like other concepts it has shown, the first teaser image appears to show a very striking vehicle with a classic wedge shape. Although we don’t yet know what this new electric Honda will be called, the teaser photo reveals that it could follow the design language introduced by the E:N line of electric Honda concepts in China back in 2021. Defined by their straight lines and sharp creases, the series marks the bold return of the origami design aesthetic of the ’70s and ’80s.
We know that the model won’t be based on
GM’s Ultium platform, since Honda recently canceled its deal with the American
manufacturer, citing changing market conditions. However, the concept previews
one of 30 new fully electric vehicles that Honda will introduce between now and
2030.
Honda says its goal is to sell 2 million
EVs per year by the end of the decade, exclusively manufacture zero-emission
automobiles by 2040, and achieve carbon neutrality across all of its products
and corporate activities by 2050. We’ll find out a little more about what
Honda’s electric plans look like on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, when its CEO,
Toshihiro Mibe, and executive vice president, Shinji Aoyama, take to the stage
at CES 2024 to talk about this new EV.
