The Lexus RZ lineup is expanding as the company has introduced an entry-level RZ 300e in Japan. Designed to slot beneath the RZ 450e, the model eschews a dual-motor all-wheel drive system for a single motor that resides up front. It produces 201 hp and 266 Nm of torque. Motivation is provided by a 71.4 kWh battery pack, which allows for a range of 599 km under the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTC). That number applies to models equipped with 18-inch wheels and it’s safe to say the available 20-inchers will shorten that distance considerably.
Besides the new powertrain, the crossover
has been equipped with a retuned suspension. It features a new rear member as
well as optimized springs, stabilizers, and shock absorbers. Lexus said the
changes ensure the EV is comfortable and nimble, while also taking advantage of
the 100 kg weight difference between the 300e and 450e.
In Japan, the RZ 300e will be priced from
¥ 8,200,000. That’s ¥ 600,000 less than the RZ 450e, which equates to a savings
of roughly 7%. In other news, Lexus announced both RZs will be equipped with a
battery rapid heating system. It’s designed to speed up the recharging process
when outside temperatures are chilly.
