Ram continues to electrify their lineup as the company has unveiled the all-new ProMaster EV. As the name suggests, it’s an electric van that will battle the Ford E-Transit. Set to beat the Ram 1500 REV to market, the ProMaster EV looks virtually identical to its gasoline-powered counterpart, with both variants being based on the Fiat Ducato sold overseas. That being said, the EV features a driver’s side charging port as well as standard LED lighting units.
The van will be offered in “two
mission-specific configurations.” The delivery variant is currently available
for order and it features a pocket door as well as an anodized aluminum roll-up
rear door. Other highlights include an “extended super-high-roof,” a 4,039 mm wheelbase, and a payload capacity of 921 kg. Ram didn’t
say much about the cargo variant, but it will arrive later with 3,658 and 3,962 mm cargo lengths. The model will also have an increased
payload capacity of up to 1,370 kg.
Moving inside, drivers will find a
familiar cabin with a 10.1-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment system that has Alexa
as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. An assortment of options will be
available including a heated steering wheel, a heated windshield, and a
wireless smartphone charger. There’s a host of standard driver assistance
systems including automatic high-beam headlights, full-speed forward collision
warning, crosswind assist, and post-collision braking. They’re joined by
traffic sign information, drowsiness detection, and a rearview camera with
dynamic gridlines.
Buyers looking for more advanced features
can get Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Active Drive Assist, and
Lane Keep Assist. Other options include Intelligent Speed Assist, a digital
rearview mirror, and parking sensors. A 110 kWh battery pack powers a
front-mounted motor developing 268 hp and 409 Nm of torque. This setup should give the van a range of up to 261 km in the city. While that might sound lackluster, the E-Transit has an estimated
range of between 174 and 203 km.
Ram didn’t say much about recharging, but
confirmed the van will have a Level 2 capability of up to 11 kW. The company
went on to say the ProMaster EV will be offered with DC fast charging
capabilities of 50 kW, 85 kW, 125 kW, and 150 kW. We’ll learn more information
closer to launch, but Ram said the lineup will eventually expand to include
five configurations. Details are limited, but the company mentioned “two roof
heights, two cargo lengths, and two body styles.” The company also mentioned a
best-in-class cargo capacity of 14,838 liters as well as a
best-in-class interior cargo height of 2,184 mm.
