If you’re in the market for an exotic hypercar, you’ll be happy to learn that the De Tomaso P72 will finally enter production in the second half of 2024. The company confirmed the news on Instagram, announcing that the first example is scheduled to be delivered before the end of the year. Contradicting earlier reports, the P72 will be manufactured with the help of engineering firm HWA. You might remember HWA from the upcoming Mercedes-Benz 190E Evo II restomod, but also from its involvement in the development and production of the Apollo Automobili’s Intenza Emozione. Apollo is a sister brand to the reborn De Tomaso, so the news about the partnership is not surprising at all.

The De Tomaso P72 was originally introduced in 2019, with a curvy bodywork inspired by cars of the ’60s, a carbon fiber monocoque sourced from the Apolo Intenza Emozione, and a mid-mounted V12 engine. Unfortunately, the latter won’t make it to the production version, as it was swapped for a Ford Coyote supercharged V8.

Initially, De Tomaso announced a limited production of 72 units for the P72, with a starting price of € 750,000 (US$ 820,680). It is not clear if those numbers have changed in the process, and we don’t know how many units of the hypercar are still available to order.

Back in 2022, De Tomaso revealed the P900, which is essentially the track-only version of the P72 with a more limited availability of 18 units, a naturally aspirated V12, and a price tag of US$ 3 million. Still, it remains to be seen if the P900 will enter production after the “regular” P72.
